DENIS
PIANO
PASCAL
CNSMD Paris
Denis Pascal performs in France and around the world as a soloist and chamber musician. He has made numerous appearances in the United States (Lincoln Center and Merkin Hall of New York, Kennedy Center of Washington, Herbst Theater San Francisco ...) in Asia (festival of Yokohama in Japan, Seoul ...) and in Europe (Palermo, Rome, Venice, Lisbon, Helsinki, Liepaja, Madrid, Valencia ...). He is regularly invited to the prestigious Husum piano festival in Germany, where he defends the most audacious programs. In France, in Paris, the public of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre de la Ville, Salle Gaveau and Opéra Garnier were able to applaud it, as well as that of many international festivals. He has performed with the national orchestras of Lyon, Bordeaux, Besançon, Toulouse and the Auvergne Orchestra.
Denis Pascal's concerts are well thought out. Anxious to keep a historical awareness of the repertoire, he often goes off the beaten track and gives concerts both outstanding and open to all, applying with rigor a consistent ethic both in the Lisztian repertoire that impressionist music or post-romantic music, This singular approach to all parts of the piano repertoire as well as his passion to defend rare works and composers make him one of the most outstanding artists on the French and international scene.
The discography of Denis Pascal reflects of course his musical commitments. For the French label Polymnie, he recorded Franz Liszt's Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies, whose expressive force was unanimously hailed by the music press, with a Shock of the World of Music, the Franz Liszt French Association Award , the "Recommended" by Classica. He has engraved Ernest Chausson's Concert for violin, string quartet and piano, which has been enthusiastically received by critics. Shortly after, his collaboration with François-Xavier Roth's Les Siècles orchestra in Chopin's two concertos renewed our vision of the sounds of these iconic works - piano Pleyel 1900 and period instruments. Among the discographic projects that have received enormous recognition from the critics: a monographic disc dedicated to Jean Wiener for Sisyphus who obtained a Diapason d'Or.
In October 2012, a new volume dedicated to Jean Wiéner's chamber music will be released, and in 2013 a recording of Schubert's Moments musicalaux and Sonata D.960 will be released.
Disciple of Pierre Sancan, he studied at the CNSM of Paris also with Jacques Rouvier, Leon Fleisher and Gyorgy Sandor. Winner of international competitions in Lisbon, the Concert Artist Guild of New York, Zurich, he immediately went to improve with György Sebök, at Indiana University in Bloomington for three years. It will then be collaborations and regular tours with the great cellist Janos Starker.
Pedagogue unanimously appreciated, Denis Pascal was appointed professor at the CNSM of Lyon in January 2010, then at the National Conservatory of Music of Paris in April 2011. He also contributed to the development of several didactic books in collaboration with the Cité de la Paris Music. He is the originator of several musical seasons, including the "Les Tons Voisins" season - International Chamber Music Encounters in Albi - which is a great success. Rented unanimously by the press, this season invests the most unexpected places of this city recently classified World Heritage by UNESCO.
