Irmela Bossler was born in Freiburg/Brsg. the daughter of the composer Kurt Bossler and the singer Ursula Bossler-Moericke. She received her first music lessons from her parents and from 1969 from the principal flute in Heidelberg Werner Löhrich. In 1974 she began her studies at the “Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Heidelberg-Mannheim”. She then went on to study with Gertrud Zoeller and Karlheinz Zoeller (principal flute in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) at the “Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst” in Hamburg.
After her Diploma she went on to take her Konzertexamen which she passed “mit Auszeichnung”.
During her student years she won prizes in various international competitions e.g. the Kuhlau Competition and the Gaudeamus Competition/ Rotterdam for interpreters of contemporary music.
In 1982 she was awarded a two year scholarship at the Herbert von Karajan Foundation in Berlin.
After several years in various leading German orchestras and a flute teaching position at the “Musikhochschule des Saarlandes” she was invited in 1992 by the Mozarteum in Salzburg to be a visiting professor and to direct the flute class of the Innsbruck department.
In 1993 she was appointed professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig.
Since her student days Irmela Bossler has given concerts at home and abro ad as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles. She regularly performs with the pianist and harpsichordist Bernhard Kastner. Alongside traditional repertoire, she has a particular interest in performing contemporary music of well known but also of unknown young composers, presenting unconventional programmes which contain different musical forms such as improvisation and in using the concert space in unusual ways. She wishes to bring about new listening habits and a new understanding of music in her audience.
La flûtiste Irmela Boßler est née à Fribourg-en-Brisgau, elle est la fille du compositeur Kurt Boßler et de la chanteuse Ursula Boßler-Moericke. Elle a grandi dans un environnement familial où la musique est pratiquée quotidiennement et qui l’a tout naturellement familiarisée avec les multiples facettes du langage et de l’expression musicaux.
Elle a suivi ses premiers cours de flûtes traversières auprès du flûtiste de Heidelberg Werner Löhrich. Alors qu’elle est encore à l’école, elle entreprend des études musicales à la Hochschule für Musik Heidelberg-Mannheim, qu’elle termine à l’âge de 18 ans avec un diplôme d’État d’enseignement.
Elle poursuit ses études à la Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg auprès des professeurs Gertrud et Karlheinz Zoeller, réussit ses examens et concerts de fin d’étude avec les félicitations. Boursière de la Herbert von Karajan Akademie de Berlin, elle collabore régulièrement avec les Berliner Philharmoniker sous la direction de Herbert von Karajan et Seiji Ozawa. Ces expériences musicalement décisives ont permis à Irmela Boßler de participer et d’assister à des concerts des Berliner Philharmoniker, et ont été pour elles des moments très marquants et très stimulants.
Outre son activité de soliste, elle a pendant de nombreuses années été instrumentiste au sein de différents orchestres (Nationaltheater Mannheim, Saarländischer Rundfunk Saarbrücken, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Ludwigshafen) et a assuré une mission d’enseignement à la Musikhochschule Saarbrücken. Pendant ces années, elle s’est produite de façon régulière au sein de l’Ensemble Modern (Francfort), où elle a joué sous la direction de chefs comme Pierre Boulez, Hans Zender et Peter Eötvös.
Après avoir été professeur invité au Mozarteum Salzburg, Irmela Boßler a obtenu une chaire de professeur de flûte traversière à la Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy de Leipzig en 1993. Elle consacre beaucoup d’engagement à la direction de la classe de flûte de cette institution.
Depuis de nombreuses années, Irmela Boßler se produit en duo avec le pianiste et claveciniste Bernhard Kastner. De par ses concerts en Allemagne et à travers le monde, Irmela Boßler s’est imposée comme flûtiste au répertoire stylistiquement étendu, qui couvre une large palette de la musique baroque à l’avant-garde la plus récente.
