Ariadne Daskalakis est une violoniste américaine d'origine grecque, actuellement résidant en Allemagne, interprète et pédagogue en violon moderne et baroque.
Elle s'est produite en tant que soliste avec des ensembles tels que la Bavarian Radio Symphony Munich, les orchestres philharmoniques de Stuttgart et de Dortmund, le Berlin Symphoniker et l'orchestre national d'Athènes. Dans le double rôle de chef et de soliste, elle a travaillé avec les orchestres de chambre de Cologne, Stuttgart et Prague, le English Chamber Orchestra, le New Rhine Chamber Orchestra, l'Akademie de la musique ancienne de Berlin (Akamus), l'Orchestre baroque norvégien et le concerto Köln.
Après la sortie de son enregistrement Vivaldi «7 with one Stroke» avec le Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, elle a été présentée par WDR et la radio allemande MDR comme une « spécialiste universelle ».
L’expérience d’Ariane en matière d'interprétation historique remonte au milieu des années 1990, alors qu’elle dirigeait l’Ensemble Oriol Berlin et était la première violoniste du Manon Quartet Berlin. En 2009, elle a cofondé l'Ensemble Vintage Köln, qui interprète la musique de chambre baroque allant du trio à l'ensemble plus large.
La polyvalence stylistique d’Ariane se reflète dans sa discographie qui comprend des concertos de Tartini, Haydn, Vivaldi et Kalliwoda et des Sonates de Biber, Handel, Fauré, Raff et Lutosławski. Ses CD ont été récompensés "CD du mois" à Tacet et à Naxos, et ses enregistrements sur Tartini et Handel "Sélection du mois" dans le magazine "The Strad". Early Music America a écrit : « Avec cette sortie, Daskalakis se hisse au premier rang des violonistes historiques. ».
MusicWeb International l'a décrite comme une « étoile montante du violon ... Ces albums sont en train de réécrire l'histoire de la musique ». En août 2019, le Volume 1 de son enregistrement Complete Works for Violin de Franz Schubert est sorti sur le label BIS.
Ariadne Daskalakis a remporté des prix au concours international ARD et au concours de cordes symphoniques de St. Louis, ainsi qu'à la Mozart Society Dortmund, à la Harvard Musical Association et à la Framingham State University, qui lui ont décerné la première médaille Christa McAuliffe.
Elle a étudié la musique et les sciences humaines à la Juilliard School, à l'Université de Harvard et à la Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Ses maîtres ont été Eric Rosenblith, Eugene Lehner, Szymon Goldberg et Ilan Gronich.
En 2000, elle est devenue le plus jeune professeur de violon titulaire du conservatoire de musique et de danse de Cologne (HfMT Köln). Ses étudiants viennent du monde entier, ont reçu des prix internationaux et jouent dans des orchestres professionnels, notamment l'Orchestre Gewandhaus de Leipzig, la NDR Philharmonie de Hanovre, l'Orchestre Philharmonie Luxembourg, le Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe, l'Orchestre Beethoven de Bonn et le WDR Cologne Orchestre Symphonique et Radio Orchestres . En 2015, elle a été nommée directrice artistique de l'Académie européenne de musique et d'art «Palazzo Ricci» à Montepulciano, en Italie.
Elle est également directrice artistique du festival international de musique de chambre «Music from Land’s End Wareham», fondé en 2012, et une invitée régulière du festival Portland Bach Virtuosi
Ariadne Daskalakis is an American violinist of Greek descent, currently based in Germany, and a unique performer and pedagogue of both modern and baroque violin. She has concertized in major venues around the world, appearing as soloist with ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Munich, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Stuttgart and Dortmund, the Berlin Symphoniker and the Athens National State Orchestra. In the dual role of leader and soloist she has worked extensively with the Chamber Orchestras of Cologne, Stuttgart and Prague, the English Chamber Orchestra, the New Rhine Chamber Orchestra, the Akademie for Ancient Music Berlin (Akamus), the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and Concerto Köln. Following the release of her Vivaldi recording “7 with one Stroke” with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, she was featured by WDR and MDR German Radio, praised as a “universal specialist”.
Ariadne’s experience in historical performance practice reaches back to the mid-1990’s, during her tenure as leader of Ensemble Oriol Berlin and first violinist of the Manon Quartet Berlin. In 2009 she co-founded Ensemble Vintage Köln, which performs baroque chamber music ranging from trio to larger ensemble. Ariadne’s stylistic versatility is reflected in a discography which includes concerti by Tartini, Haydn, Vivaldi and Kalliwoda and Sonatas by Biber, Handel, Fauré, Raff and Lutosławski. Her CDs have been „CD of the month“ at Tacet and Naxos, and her Tartini and Handel recordings „Selection of the month“ in the magazine „The Strad“. Early Music America praised: “With this release, Daskalakis propels herself into the front rank of historical violinists.” MusicWeb International decribed her as a “rising star of the violin...These albums are rewriting music history.” In August 2019 Volume 1 of her recording of the Complete Works for Violin by Franz Schubert was released on the label BIS.
Ariadne Daskalakis won prizes at the ARD International Competition and the St. Louis Symphony Strings Competition, as well as from the Mozart Society Dortmund, the Harvard Musical Association and Framingham State University, which awarded her the first Christa McAuliffe Medal. She enjoyed an education in music and humanities at the Juilliard School, Harvard University and the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Her mentors included Eric Rosenblith, Eugene Lehner, Szymon Goldberg and Ilan Gronich.
In 2000 she became the youngest tenured Violin Professor at the Cologne Conservatory of Music and Dance (HfMT Köln). Her students hail from around the world, have been awarded international prizes and play in professional orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the NDR Philharmonie Hannover, the Orchestra Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the WDR Cologne Symphony and Radio Orchestras. In 2015 she was named Artistic Director of the European Academy of Music and Art “Palazzo Ricci” in Montepulciano, Italy. She is also the Artistic Director of the international chamber music festival “Music from Land’s End Wareham”, founded in 2012, and a regular guest at the Portland Bach Virtuosi Festival.
